City Council |
The City of Walsenburg is divided into four wards with two council members elected from each ward. Together, these eight council members and the Mayor, elected at-large, make up the nine-member City Council.
Bruce Quintana - Mayor
I came to Walsenburg in 1995 from San Jose, California. My older brothers were born and raised here in Southern Colorado. I thought I would come and experience Southern Colorado first-hand. Not long after my arrival, I met and married my wife, Berrie, here in Walsenburg. We have two wonderful boys. Since arriving here I have grown to love this community and would like to see it prosper and flourish.
I am currently employed as Chief Appraiser for the Huerfano County Assessor's Office.
Currently I am spearheading the Northern Gateway Project. We are sprucing up the North entry to town and building, along the hogback, a territorial styled gateway into our community.
Jim Moore - Council Member, Ward 1 - four year term
With appointment to our council in 2009, it is an honour to offer both experience and background to support our local government. Previously the Office Manager for the City of Aguilar, I learned valuable municipal management experience, and earned commendations on critical operations achievements. I also worked previously to assist our city on important project development, and gained a wealth of knowledge over issues that still require a great deal of work to accomplish.
As a homeowner since 1997, the economic stability and quality of of life in our community remains my concern. I dedicate my service to our city staff and all residents who depend on the future of Walsenburg.
Silvana Lind - Council Member, Ward 1 - two year term
James England - Mayor pro tem, Council Member, Ward 2 - four year term
My name is James England. I am 44 years old, and of Italian and American Indian heritage. I am originally from Oklahoma and Texas. I moved to Walsenburg four and a half years ago to join my beautiful wife, Teresa, who is a school teacher for the RE-1 school district.
I will bring to the city council my many years of management experience in many fields of employment that I have enjoyed in my work history. I have worked in radio, retail sales, and also managed a finance company for five years before moving to Walsenburg. I am currently employed at Walsenburg Lumber since my move to Walsenburg.
I see serving the voters of District 2 and the citizens of Walsenburg as an honor and a great privilege. I see serving this first term as a chance to give back to the great community that I am proud to call home. I see the continued growth for our community as a primary goal for this new council. I believe in fiscal responsibility to the voters, while maintaining the continued growth of Walsenburg's city infrastructure.
I look forward to serving and helping the community grow in the future, and am looking forward to doing my best to make these next two years a stepping stone for great things for Walsenburg.
