Road Issue
April 28, 2008
PUEBLO COUNTY Ð The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) begins a 16-mile paving project on Interstate 25 through southern Pueblo County this week. Work includes rotomilling and resurfacing the highway with new and recycled pavement, minor bridge repairs, new bridge and guard rails, new delineators, signing and striping. Initial bridge and guardrail work is not expected to impact traffic since operations will take place outside the traffic lanes. Project hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Beginning in mid to late June, northbound and southbound I-25 will be reduced to a single lane at various locations from just north of the Huerfano/Pueblo county line (mile 69.5) to Cedarwood (mile 85.5) between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph through the work zone. Vehicles wider than 14 feet also will be restricted from traveling through the area during project hours. In addition to mainline I-25, several ramps and frontage roads also will be resurfaced through the project area. No work will take place during the Memorial and Independence Day holidays and during the State Fair, August 22 through August 25 and August 29 through September 1, which includes Labor Day weekend. ÒWith traffic reduced to a single lane through a two to three mile work zone, it could take a little longer to get through the area,Ó says CDOT Project Engineer Dan Dahlke. ÒBut safety is of primary importance so weÕre urging everyone to please obey the lower speed limit and to pay close attention as they drive through the work zone. It helps maintain safety for travelers and construction crews alike.Ó APC Southern Construction Co. of Golden, CO. is the contractor for the $16.8 million project. Work is scheduled to be completed by late November 2008. Traffic information about this or other CDOT projects is available at cotrip.org or by calling 511. Posted on 28 Apr 2008 by Walsenburg
